'Magadheera' Review: It’s Not A Movie-But Historical Wonder!!

Movie Name : Magadheera Release Date:31 Jul, 2009 Rating : 4/5 Banner : Geetha Arts Casting : Ramcharan Teja, Kajal Agarwal, Devgill, Srihari, Sunil, Brahmanandam, Sarath Babu, Subbaraya Sharma, Kim Sharma and Others Music : M M Keeravani Cinematography : Senthil Kumar Producer : Allu Aravind Director : S S Rajamouli

Story:A gripping tale of romance, the story begins with Harsha (charan) who is an avid bike racer and his life takes a turn when his hand brushes with that of Indu (Kajal). Since he does not see her face, he wants to know who she is and finally manages to get her. The truth goes back 400 years ago when Harsha was Kalabhairava, a brave warrior general. Indu is princess Mitra who falls in love with Bhairava. However, her relative Randev (devgill) has an eye for her and he wants her at any cost. A tragic ending happens there but the story comes back to the present and Randev is again the relative of Indu. Whether Harsha gets successful this time or not forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:The director has come up with a regular storyline with an element of past life but then the presentation was fabulous. The dialogues were apt, the script was sensible and the screenplay was adept. Background score and music were alright but cinematography was mind blowing. Special appreciations to the graphics and visual effects department for doing a remarkable job. Editing was neat, costumes were royal and trendy, art department was top notch. Charan has did full justice to the role and has carried both characters very strongly. Kajal was seductive as usual and she will steal hearts. Srihari gave the momentum, Devgill was just okay, he could have been better, Sunil and Brahmi gave few moments of humor. The others contributed effectively to the film.
Conclusion:The film has been a brave attempt at taking the Telugu cinema to a different level. Not just in terms of genre, but also in terms of the technical aspects and the production values. While the first half of the film was quite pale, it is just before the interval that the heat builds up. The second half makes up for the slackened pace and is a gripping treat to the audience. The idol of Lord Shiva gives goosebumps. Keeping the content part aside, this is truly a grand effort by the makers and it has created a new dimension to historical movies.

Shriya’s role in Mallana would be this

ding to film nagar sources, Shriya is going to come up with a role that has got many grey areas, there would presentation of glamor as well performance and presence in her character. And it is said that this will play a crucial role in the story. Its completely different as I play a role in ’Shivaji’ with Super star Rajani Kanth last time.Shriya is hoping this one would give her a strong comeback in Telugu.

Sexy Parvathi Melton's Balayya Tensions

Caste is the vital factor, as many say, in film industry. If that stands as an advantage, one can touch success easily. But that is not a problem for sexy heroines. Paravathi Melton has got stunning beauty that seduces anyone. But luck is not favoring her.
She is the red wine beauty of the Tollywood circuit and though success has not been with her to the required level, she has surely created a great impact. She is none other than Parvati Melton and right now she is said to be shivering with tension.
Apparently, the news is that Parvati has been roped in as the leading lady for Balayya’s new movie ‘Bheeshma’ to be directed by Ramesh Varma and produced by Bellamkonda Suresh. So she might be pairing up with Nandamuri Balakrishna.
However, after the episode of ‘Varudu’, Parvati is said to have been quite tensed and is hoping that even this big offer will not fizzle out of her hands. Many say that Parvati would have been a great pair for Mahesh but now she happens to be Balayya’s lady. Let us hope she gets through with this project and scores a good hit to prove her point.

Why Chiru Family Avoided ‘Josh’!

Chiranjeevi’s family kept away from Josh audio function. Why that happened? Although Chiru is in Tirupathi during the tour, he could manage to send his wishes to Naga Chaitanya via video record message when the event was going on. But no other person from Chiru and Allu Aravind family could grace the occasion although many from industry have made their presence. Many doubted if Chiru family members are afraid of Mohan Babu who never hesitates to give verbal attack for them. Prabhas, the close friend of Dil Raju couldn’t grace the occasion as he is in Bangkok for shooting Ek Niranjan. But the focus was kept more on Chiru’s family by public those have attended this event.

'Vengamamba' Review: Must Watch By All Telugus

Film: VengamambaRating: 3/5
Banner: V M C FilmsCast: Meena, Sarath Babu, Saikiran, Sana, Subbaraya Sarma, Ashok Rao, Ananth, Sudha, Sivaparvathy, Ranganath, Sriram and others
Music: M M Keeravani
Cinematography: P R K Raju
Director: Uday BhaskarProducer: Doraiswamy
RajuReleased On: 17th July 2009

The sparkling beauty Meena who has now become a lovely bride with her recent marriage has now arrived with her new movie and this time, it is a purely devotional flick. Rated as next to ‘Annamayya’, let us see how true this attempt is.

Story : Vengamamba (Meena) is the darling daughter of Krishnaiah and Mangamamba (Sarath Babu and Sudha).
She grows up to be an ardent follower of lord Venkateshwara and despite the crisis in her personal life and the hurdles, she is determined and has her goal focused. Soon, she reaches Tirumala and continues her writing works. There are issues she faces from members like Kainkaryam (Anant) and Dikshitulu (Ashok).
Does she manage to overcome those hurdles? Is she successful in her writings? All this forms the rest of the story.
Performances : Meena:Meena has come up with a very good performance and she has shown grace and elegance in her act. She could do her best even in old get up but that ended up in brisk pace.
Others:Sarath Babu was upto standard and even Subbaraya Sarma was good enough. Sudha did her melodrama as usual, Ananth and Ashok Rao were efficient as the villains, the real lookers were Saikiran and Sana as the gods and they were the perfect choice for the roles. L B Sriram was brief, Ranganath was barely there and others did their bit as required.
Technical Departments:The director has come up with a neat presentation of the storyline and his narrative was appealing. The presentation was also good with some really melodious songs along with exceptional graphics. Editing was nice and the screenplay was smooth. The script was written without much complication and the pace of the film was good.
Music and Lyrics:Music many a time appears to be a continuation to Annamayya. Even the lyrics written for the song of Vengamamba jananam is something similar to that of Annamayya Jananam song.
Highlights:Get up of Sai Kiran as Lord VenkateshwaraDevotional depth in a few scenes
Disappointment:Lack of publicity

Analysis Though this did not have the glamour and glitz of ‘Annamayya’, the movie has been shaped well and it has come up with a standard result. The credit for this goes to the performances and also the songs. Since it is a purely devotional flick, the genre of audience would be quite specified such as the families and those with spiritual inclination.
Though the film faltered on elements such as lack of comedy and few unwanted songs, overall it has been able to engage the audience in a good way.
The current day audience can relate to it in terms of the dialogues and the makers have not attempted to make it melodramatic or sentimental. This is a good effort considering the genre and the success of the film would rely on some aggressive marketing and decent first week reports. The technical values of the movie were quite good and the graphics also were perfect. This is a good one for those who seek some clean movies.
This film is a must watch for all Telugus because, it’s the newly unleashed story of a ‘vaaggeyakaarini’ of British era in Tirumala.
Bottom Line: This historical devotional film again goes unknown in history if proper publicity is not added.

‘I’d love to play a vamp’

The chirpy Tollywood actress Poonam Bajwa is busy expanding territories, after her successful stint in the Telugu film industry. The actress who has her kitty full with three Tamil movies currently, says she wants to experiment with different kinds of roles and cinema while she waits for the "right" Tollywood role to come her way. "I've heard over 50 Tollywood scripts till now but all of them offered roles of either a bubbly energetic youngster or a shy innocent village damsel. These are characters I've already played and I don't want to be typecast. Right now, I'm starring in a Tamil movie opposite Jeeva and another one with Tamil actors Srikanth and Vishnu." Talking about the contrasts between both these South industries, Poonam says that the difference lies in the audience's response. "While Tollywood is still all about glamour, the Tamil audience is more open and receptive to non-glamorous roles that require less make-up. Artistic movies have a bigger audience there," says the actress, who enjoys shedding her glamorous image to do serious roles. "I want to do different type of roles. Signing up for films that portray stereotypes restricts me from exploring other avenues in acting. Hence, I am very choosy about the films I do. Someday, I'd love to play a vamp or a brat. It'd be the opposite of the roles I've played so far," she says. While Kollywood is keeping Poonam Bajwa busy, the actress admits she misses shooting in Hyderabad. "I have fun-filled memories of Hyderabad. It is never boring. I love the city's nightlife and miss eating at the amazing restaurants. In fact, the Hyderabad joyride starts off right at the swanky airport," says this actress who is popular with the city's party crowd. Things may be going good for her, but Poonam reveals that she is not too ambitious when it comes to her career. "I'm happy with the way my career has shaped up and I have no set goals as such. Neither do I want to chase awards. My parents are proud of what I am and that's what matters to me," she says

Sneha's Sexy Fat Tummy Area

Sneha has reduced a lot after rigorous work outs after ‘Sri Ramadasu’ with Nagarjuna. But again she gained some weight and this picture is an evidence for that. This still is from the film ‘Neelo Naalo’ that is getting dubbed from Tamil where Shaam of ‘Kick’ fame is the lead role in it. Her tummy area is little stout but she hasn’t gone far away from oozing sex appeal. Hence Sneha is called the ‘sexy black beauty with hot South Indian curves’.

Deepika waiting for Ranbir’s call all the time!

That’s what Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor seem to be saying these days. Apparently, there have been talks about the two talking for hours on the phone when they’re not together. Now, we know most lovebirds do that, but Deepika doesn’t take the ‘accusation’ too kindly. She says it mars her ‘professional image’. “I am committed to my films once I sign them and I am professional when it comes to my work. Stories of me talking to Ranbir on the phone for hours together when we are not working together are not true. I don’t get distracted by Ranbir once I am on the sets of my film and vice versa. Both Ranbir and I are professionals and know our responsibilities,” said the miffed actor. But talking on the phone is a symbol of love aaj kal, Deeps.(TNN)

Gopi Gopika Godavari Movie Review

Movie Name : Gopi Gopika Godavari
Rating : 3/5
Banner : Maharshi Cinema
Casting : Venu, Kamalini Mukherjee, Pradeep Shakti, Jeeva, Jayalalitha, Kondavalasa, Krishna Bhagawan, Sana, Geetanjali, Praveen and others
Music : Chakri
Cinematography : Loki B Goud
Producer : Ramesh Valluripalli
Director : Vamsy

Story:A romantic tale, the story begins on the banks of river Godavari in Polavaram and here is Gopika (kamalini) who is a doctor. She has a mobile clinic in the boats called 'Lanchee' and she serves the poor and takes care of their health. She has a team (pradeep shakti and others) which helps her in her social service. However, her mother (jayalalitha) is worried since she wants to see Gopika married. Her prayers are answered in the form of Dr Shyam who comes from the US. However, a chance incident gets Gopika in touch with Gopi (venu) through mobile. Gopi is a singer with an orchestra band living in Hyderabad and both have not seen each other. Soon, their mobile conversations get them close and they fall in love with each other. This matter is exposed to Gopika's mom and she resents this. Gopi decides it is time to come and meet Gopika but on the way, an incident takes place and this changes the course of the whole story. Whether Gopi and Gopika meet at Godavari or not forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:The director has come up with an interesting storyline and though the narrative was good, the presentation could have been a lot better. The dialogues are witty, the script was alright, the screenplay could have been smoother. Songs were pleasant and worth taking home but the background score was a bit annoying in few scenes. Cinematography was a setback as it failed to capture the locales. Editing was stiff. Costumes and art department were excellent. Venu has come up with a regular performance but he could have been more natural at few places, Kamalini looked sensuous as ever but there was inconsistency in her make up. She could have been more expressive at few points. Pradeep Shakti and others contributed in their own way, Krishna Bhagawan was hilarious, Kondavalasa was okay. The others had their own presence in the movie.
Conclusion:The film takes off on a good note and there is enough comedy though it is a bit spicy. While the first half goes on a comedy and light hearted manner, the second half gets into seriousness and sentiment. The climax was abrupt and it must be said that there were too many random shots that not only caused visual disturbance but also took away the feel. Overall, the film is good in parts and it could have been a lot better if there was a proper continuity and length in the scenes. This will appeal to the family audience and those who are looking at tender romances

Big Heroes Bend Their Backs For Money!!!

There was a time when the big names of the Telugu circuit were known for their starry airs and their celebrity presence. However, recession has given a reality stroke to all of them and the picture has changed completely now, as per film nagar sources.
It is heard that the producers and directors are now taking the shots and all those big heroes whose pay checks are in crores are now being told to prove their money’s worth. It is heard that S S Rajamouli had insisted that Ramcharan Teja take up horse riding perfectly since the audience had to see something more different from him.
The same path is now said to be taken for many heroes and it is buzzed that they have to come out of their shell of romancing the heroines and beating the baddies to do stuff like their own stunts or something that appeals to the audience and also keeps up their larger than life image. Now we are talking about some true heroism and heroic acts folks…

'Oy' Review

Film: OyBanner: Universal MediaRating: 2.5/5Cast: Siddartha, Shamili, Surekha Vani, Napolean, Sunil, PradeepRawat, Tanikella Bharani etcMusic: Yuvan Shankar RajaEditing: Marthand K VenkateshDirector: Anand RangaProducer: DVV DanayyaReleased On: 3rd July 2009
The much awaited debut of Baby Shamili as heroine has arrived today. The film will be remembered only as ‘heroine debut of Shamili’. Let us see how far that appealed for audiences.
Story:Uday (Siddartha) is the son of a big business magnate and Sandhya (Shamili) is a simple girl who is religious, disciplined and perfectionist. Like their names, their attitudes are on two extremes- like dawn and dusk. But Uday falls in attraction with Sandhya. He tries to pull her towards him. But all his habits and interests are away from her. He strives hard to impress her by enacting as if his tastes suit that of hers. And slowly Sandhya inclines towards Uday.
But a startling fact comes out. What’s that fact? How that influences the love of Uday and Sandhya? That forms rest of the story.
Performances:Hero-Siddartha:His energy levels are shown in first half and he is all pervasive. But his character goes sidelined in second half without his mark. On a whole, as a performer he proved once again. He is impressive all the way.
Heroine- Shamili:Baby Shamili has now turned heroine. Proper costumes and make up are not given for her and hence she looked like a side artiste than a heroine. Although the attempt to show her as ‘girl next door’ is appreciated, little care would have taken in her appearance. And she is too heavy to her age. She needs to cut down weight to look better and have future in film industry.
Others:Surekha Vani looked glamorous enough with slim personality and neat gait. Tanikella appears for sometime as ‘Telugu Pundit’ throwing some comedy. Sunil’s comedy episode is good in first half but goes eccentric in second half.
Music and Lyrics:They are good. Yuvan has given the best of tunes and the lyrics are also rightly grooved in the tracks with new sense of poetry. The song ‘176 beach houselo….’ is impressive and catchy. And the expressions like ‘kannu veedi choopu poyenaa…’ are interesting and marvelous.
Technical Departments:Cinematography is good. Editing is up to the mark. Dialogues are also up to the requirement. Direction has suffered ups and downs and the production values deserve a very good mention.
Crowd Pulling Aspects:Baby Shamili (as it’s her debut as heroine)Music (lyrically also good)Siddhartha
Disappointments:Shamili has no grace or glamour that’s required for the heroines of this era Second half killed the momentum with ‘extras’ Lack of grip on characters and characterization
Highlights:CinematographyMusicSubtle comedy in first half
Analysis:The movie promises very big with the conclusion of first half. But the expectations fall down mercilessly. Audiences find it difficult to sit on seats when the second half starts. The characterization of heroine goes berserk with second half. How can she ask for a cigarette when she was projected as idealistic lady in first half? How can she comment on mangalasootram and mattelu of married women to a pet dog’s belt when she was shown as a pious religious lady in first half?
Connectionless scenes, eerie characters come on to screen to kill time but they killed the interest levels of audiences. The journey from Vizag to Kaashi via Kolkata on ship, on road to some extent …blah ..blah is the way chosen by director to kill time and narrate how the hero can make his heroine happier by fulfilling all her fantasies and desires. He has gone to certain unwanted extensions by showing ‘Annavaram’ movie in a Kolkata theatre with huge hoopla by fans!!! The director might have expected some patronage from the fans of that matinee icon, Pawan Kalyan. All is ok till then. But he has overlooked the vehicle of ‘Hyderabad City Police’ moving fast in Kolkata!!!
While first half resembles a kind of ‘Chukkallo Chandrudu’, the second half recalls something on the lines of ‘Jab We Met’ and ‘Geetanjali’. This mixed concoction leaves no pleasant freshness in the film.
Choice of the subject is not bad but the implementation part is mishandled. Director failed to maintain momentum in narration. He has shown his slapdash execution in second half.
On a whole, the movie cannot please all sets of audiences. High expectations on this movie would certainly disappoint.
